LIFE2026

Event Theme 2026: Cultivating a Sense of Belonging – Building Bridges through Education for a better future.

Cultivating a sense of belonging in education is essential for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered. When students feel they belong, they are more engaged, motivated, and likely to succeed academically and socially. It fosters positive relationships among peers and educators, reduces feelings of isolation, and boosts overall well-being. In the future of education, prioritizing belonging will be key to addressing diverse student needs, promoting equity, and preparing learners for a collaborative, interconnected world. By integrating empathy, cultural understanding, and inclusive practices, education can evolve to support not just academic growth but personal and societal development as well.

Join us as we delve into how cultivating belonging can transform education — for both academic growth and creating resilient, compassionate individuals ready to contribute to a more connected society. Together, we can build bridges that empower all learners to reach their full potential.

The LIFE2026 program reflects the collaborative learning culture promoted by our newest national curriculum. You will be job shadowing Finnish teachers and daily life at local schools, interacting with invited speakers as well as with other participants from around the world, and walking in the footsteps of the world’s happiest nation in the untouched nature of Lapland. We’ll explore the foundations of happiness, particularly pedagogical tools and practical methods, alongside the influence of the environment, such as the natural rhythm of changing seasons and the northern down-to-earth lifestyle.

This unique teacher training course is the nineth Lapland International Forum for Education™, and it is organized in collaboration with VisitEDUfinn, creator of the LIFE event, and Euneos, one of the leading course providers in EuropeWelcome to Rovaniemi to experience education in the Finnish way!

Lapland International Forum for Education™ was chosen in 2019 as one of the winners in the Authentic Finnish Educational Travel Product contest. LIFE2026 offers an exclusive opportunity to visit Finnish kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and the University of Lapland‘s Teacher Training School. One day you will even get the chance to job shadow Finnish teachers from the students’ perspective during our Be a Student -lesson simulations: Nature pedagogy, Handcrafts, Home economics, Sport (snowshoeing), and Welfare pedagogy. In addition to school visits, lectures, and workshops, you can participate in social programs, such as the city of Rovaniemi reception and farewell dinner.

The essential part of LIFE2026 takes place right near the Arctic Circle in the city of Rovaniemi, also known as the official hometown of Santa Claus. During the event, you have an opportunity to meet him in person and participate in many other exciting and unique winter adventures. The main venue is Santa’s Hotel Santa Claus, and you can stay the last night of the event in a Showhotel or Glass igloo watching the Northern Lights.

In addition to the main event in Rovaniemi, you can extend your visit either at the beginning or at the end: Start the journey in our capital city Helsinki (January 23-24) by listening to the top Finnish education experts at Educa fair, the largest event for Finland’s education and training sector. You can start your Educa experience by joining a special Educa School Visit. In 2025, Educa gathered together over 17 000 educators from Finland and abroad. If Educa and LIFE2026 still leave you hungry for more, don’t worry. On Friday (January 30), we will organize an optional extra outdoor pedagogies workshop as an AFTERLIFE EXPERIENCE.

If you participated in the previous LIFE2025, LIFE2024, LIFE2023, LIFE2022, LIFE2020, LIFE2019, LIFE2018, or LIFE2017 events, we warmly welcome you to join us again. Based on your feedback, we have added more interaction with other participants, and made other changes so that the overall experience will be better than ever.

LIFE2025 -Cultivating Happiness!

In today’s fast-paced world, everyone, including teachers and students, often faces a lot of pressure. How can we establish a school culture that fosters trust, peacefulness, and happiness in this hectic time?

The LIFE2025 program reflects the collaborative learning culture promoted by our newest national curriculum.

This unique teacher training course is the eighth Lapland International Forum for Education™, and it is organized in collaboration with VisitEDUfinn, creator of the LIFE event, and Euneos, one of the leading course providers in EuropeWelcome to Rovaniemi to experience education in the Finnish way!

*COURS CONFIRMÉ*

6-12 avril 2025

Additionally, we are delighted to partner with the Educational and Cultural Services, City of Oulu  to provide school administrators and teachers from around the world who are interested in improving their STEAM teaching practice with a STEAM teaching training program in the self-proclaimed STEAM capital of the world – the City of Oulu. Furthermore, the organisers have a track record of organizing educational events with the Quality Standards for courses under Key Action 1 as required by the European Commission, suitable for teachers with ERASMUS+ grant
Moreover, students that are now in primary education will be in working life still in 2060. Therefore, what skills do you think would be needed then? Although, we cannot know for sure, STEAM pedagogy is one potential answer when trying to prepare children for an unpredictable future. In addition, read the course leader’s blog post about the importance of teaching steam skills.
Join us and enhance your STEAM teaching skills and methodologies in an innovative network of experts and schools from early childhood education, basic education, and upper secondary school, where STEAM learning and teaching are being developed. During the course, you will have an opportunity to experience STEAM learning environments as well as learn from the educational professionals who are conducting STEAM pedagogy in their schools.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education in Finland is based on the National Curriculum. Specifically, STEAM in OULU is a student-centered, experimental, and community-based learning platform that improves a school’s operating culture from the perspective of doing and learning together.
Furthermore, there is an extensive network of STEAM schools in Oulu and STEAM pedagogy is used to develop not only learning but also the whole operational culture of the schools. Consequently, STEAM skills development can be seen throughout the city: even many kindergartens are involved as well as University of Oulu, and companies in the region. Therefore, come and experience the full STEAM in Oulu!

The fundamental purpose of Full STEAM in Finland, Oulu is to experience in practice how STEAM skills teaching and learning can be integrated to the daily school life.

Course outcomes:
After the course you will:

  • Firstly, understand the fundamentals of STEAM pedagogy and the design process.
  • Additionally, you will have basic knowledge about STEAM learning environments and different equipment and materials that can be utilized in STEAM pedagogy.
  • Finally, you will find  meaningful ways to implement basic level STEAM projects in your everyday teaching.

Study visit locations:
Hintta Primary School has 350 students from grades 1 to 6. They also collaborate with the nearby Hintta early childhood unit to provide pre-primary education which include annual STEAM projects. The kindergarten also has STEAM pedagogy embedded in their working culture. In Hintta school, design thinking has been a special focus on school culture level. The school has their very own recognized FabLab, and they also have their own webshop, Hintta Design, which sells products created by students of the school.
Rajakylä Comprehensive School has 600 students from grades 1 to 9. They also collaborate with the nearby early childhood unit to provide pre-primary education. Rajakylä school has a special emphasis on music, technology, and STEAM pedagogy.

In conclusion, OSYK Upper Secondary School (details will be added later) Tietomaa on the road is an innovative tour by car which offers the Tietomaa Science Center experiences to comprehensive school students in an alternative way during a renovation of the actual science center. While the renovation keeps the center closed for the next three years. Phenomenal learning put into practice

Join our 7-day course in Helsinki, Finland!
**Registration is closed**

If you missed this course, don’t worry! We have these confirmed courses in Finland during Spring 2024:

Discounts available for groups of 5 or more participants! Contact info@visitedufinn.com for more information.

The Finnish national curriculum introduces phenomenal, multidisciplinary learning. It means that
instead of individual subject areas focusing on the themes of phenomena, the different disciplines
are combined, and thus it can be examined wider and from different perspectives.
The common objective for phenomenal learning is to support the holistic development of children.
Students need to find ways to contribute and to become active members of the society. School in
Finland is seen as a community and learners as active builders of knowledge. The aim of education
is to create the conditions for lifelong learning, which is an integral part of building a good life.

The course introduces you topics such as Finnish double flip, environmental education, gamified
mathematics and coding. The different pedagogical approaches from Finnish schools and
classrooms offer practical ideas how to promote phenomenal learning and whole school
collaboration, even beyond.

During the course you will learn more about phenomenal learning put into action via lectures, group
work, assignments, peer learning and a visit to a Finnish school. You also get to enjoy a bit of Finnish culture, explore beautiful Helsinki and why not to experience sauna as well as a dip in the sea too!

We hope to see you in April 2024!
